Portrait of Jurgita Trimakaite in the background of leafy, lush green background

About Me,

Hi, I’m Jurgita Trimakaite, a surface design artist working under the creative name Gilia Bird. I create patterns for printing on textiles, paper goods, and other everyday products.

Background and Context

My formal education is a BA in Painting and Easel Painting Restoration. I spent my twenties painting, drawing, and taking black-and-white photographs with an analogue camera. Over the years, I have also explored traditional hand-drawn animation, mural painting, and illustration. At one point, I became deeply fascinated by decorative Japanese Temari balls—an ancient folk art form.

When I moved to London, UK in 2010, I gradually became more interested in patterns and graphic design. London is a fascinating, multicultural city with a rich mix of historic and contemporary art. It’s a place where you’re constantly exposed to different cultures—which I love! It’s also full of beautiful green spaces with a wide variety of plants, both local and from all over the world.

I live and work in this diverse, inspiring environment, and my creative work is shaped by everything I see, notice, and observe. I love exploring and experimenting with different, shapes, colours and influences.

Lets Connect

If you enjoy my patterns and style, I’m open to licensing deals and I’m especially interested in collaborating with sustainable, ethical, and B-Corp companies, as well as independent creators, slow fashion brands, and advocates of slow living—people who truly live with intention. I’m also curious to explore creative collaborations and experiment with different print techniques.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions, offers, or simply to say hello. You can find my contact details at in the footer of this page.
